Chapter 1: Gate 14, or The Beginning of the End

She has a four-point system. He charms the ground staff while she waits in line. Then they end up in adjacent hotel rooms — 714 and 715 — and she is *not* reading into it.

Chapter 2: The Lobby, the Pool, and Several Poor Decisions

He guesses her coffee order. She lets him take her to the Burj Khalifa. He accidentally solves her biggest work problem. She spends that night thinking about it far more than is strictly reasonable.

Chapter 3: Old Gold

Old Dubai: the Creek, the abra, the gold souk. She buys a silver ring. A perfume vendor sprays them with the same scent. Neither of them mentions what that means.

Chapter 4: EK006

The flight home. Somehow they're in the same row. He gives her the window seat without being asked. She says two words she didn't plan to: *we have time.*

Chapter 5: Thursday

Thursday dinner. The grey dress. A walk along the Thames where they say things that work in two registers simultaneously. She almost kisses him. His sister's phone call has *terrible* timing.

Chapter 6: Saturdays and What They Reveal

A photography exhibition with a Dubai photograph neither of them expected. He tells her about the relationship that ended because no one said what they knew. She puts her hand on his arm. Something shifts.

Chapter 7: The One Where I Am Briefly an Idiot

She cancels. Twice. Clara delivers a devastatingly accurate diagnosis. Zara texts him an explanation, shows up first, and holds his hand in a Sunday flower market — which is, she decides, the correct order of events.

Chapter 8: Hana

A work event. His ex. The word *someone* — said carelessly, landed precisely. Almost-kiss number two, foiled by a group of colleagues and the world's worst timing. She goes home with a decision.

Chapter 9: Most of the Way

He says *I love you* in her kitchen on a rainy November evening. She says it first, actually — because she's been better at this than she's been acting, and she's done pretending otherwise. The kiss is quiet, certain, and absolutely correct.

Chapter 10: Arrivals

Three months later. A return trip to Dubai. The abra again, the souk, a gold ring that says *we came back.* That's the thing about layovers: sometimes the stop in the middle is the whole journey.
